International Student Orientation
Welcome to IH Career College! Our International Student Orientation is designed to help you transition smoothly into your studies and daily life in British Columbia, while understanding your academic, immigration, and personal responsibilities as an international student.
1. Before You Arrive
Before travelling to Canada, ensure you have completed the following:
- Valid Study Permit, passport, and Letter of Acceptance
- Arranged temporary health insurance (if applicable)
- Secured accommodation (homestay or off-campus housing)
- Reviewed IH Career College policies and student handbook
- Planned arrival at least 7–10 days before classes begin
2. Arrival & Check-In
Upon arrival in Canada and before starting classes, students must:
- Attend the International Student Orientation session (mandatory)
- Present immigration documents for verification
- Receive student ID and campus access information
- Confirm contact details and emergency contact information
Failure to complete check-in requirements may affect enrollment status.
3. Academic Orientation
During orientation, students will learn about:
- Program structure, schedules, and progression requirements
- Attendance expectations and academic integrity
- Assessment methods and grading
- Learning resources and student support services
Students are responsible for maintaining satisfactory academic progress at all times.
4. Immigration Responsibilities
International students must comply with IRCC regulations, including:
- Maintaining valid study permit status
- Remaining enrolled and actively pursuing studies
- Following authorized work limits (if applicable)
- Updating the school of any changes to immigration status
Important:
Programs offered by IH Career College are not eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) unless otherwise explicitly stated by IRCC.
5. Health Insurance & Well-Being
- International students must maintain valid medical insurance during their studies
- Students may be required to apply for BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) after the waiting period
- IH Career College provides information on local medical clinics, emergency services, and wellness supports
6. Living in British Columbia
Orientation includes practical guidance on:
- Housing and tenant rights under the BC Residential Tenancy Act
- Transportation and public transit
- Banking and cost of living
- Personal safety and emergency procedures
- Cultural adjustment and life in Canada
7. Student Support Services
IH Career College offers access to:
- Academic advising
- Program and enrollment guidance
- Career and employment readiness support
- Referrals to community and settlement resources
Students are encouraged to seek support early whenever needed.
8. Policies, Compliance & Student Responsibilities
IH Career College is regulated by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) and holds Education Quality Assurance (EQA) designation.
Students must comply with all institutional policies, including:
- Attendance and academic progression
- Code of Conduct
- Refund and withdrawal policies
- Health and safety requirements
